...ICE JAM FLOODING POSSIBLE ON AREA CREEKS MONDAY AFTERNOON INTO
TUESDAY EVENING...
A warm front will lift across the region on Monday, boosting
temperatures into the 40s. Temperatures will remain in the 40s
through Monday night into Tuesday. The warm-up, combined with a
quarter to half-inch of rainfall that is expected during the
period will enhance the risk of ice jams along area creeks in the
Buffalo metro area, in addition to ice-jam prone areas in
Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties, including along Cattaraugus
Creek and Sunset Bay.
...FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TUESDAY
EVENING...
The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a
* Flood Watch for a portion of western New York...including the
following counties...Cattaraugus...Chautauqua...Northern Erie
and Southern Erie.
* From Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening.
* Warming temperatures and rainfall that will enhance the risk for
ice jam flooding.
* The exact location and timing of ice jams is difficult to
predict. Buffalo, Cayuga, Cazenovia and Cattaraugus Creeks are
typically most prone to ice jam flooding. Other creeks can
also occasionally experience ice jam flooding in the watch
area.
Instructions:
A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on
current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be
alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to
flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding
